I'm getting back into crafting more again (though I've always been dabbling, even when I wasn't blogging about it) and always making cards for friends and relatives - as well as a few gifts here and there. I've been buying loads of new stamps and dies (I've gotten into the coordinating dies that match stamp sets - and it's way more fun than I initially guessed - and easier than I also thought). There is SOOOO much cute stuff out there- it's downright dangerous! Well on to my recent samples.... (I've even entered a few challenges on Simon Says Stamp's blog - they have Monday and Wednesday challenges). Except for the squirrel in the first example, most of the stamps are from My Favorite Things (the company). You can also see the Tim Holtz spider web in the one (I just love his new spider web set!). I'm getting into coloring with the alcohol markers a bit more, though I still use the Tombow markers quite a lot as well.
I was working in my Dyan Reaveley black journal last night and then had some excess paint that I rubbed off on background pages in my other journal - and decided to finish a couple of pages! I like how Dyan works on mulitple pages at once - using up paint that way. So I'm trying to do that also. It leaves lots of options when I'm not sure where to go with a certain page.... I just flip to something else and other ideas come (sometimes).

Background is a mix of Pan Pastels and Dylusions paints with stencils and then stamps added on top - with Colorbox chalk pad. I hand lettered the words with a GelXtreme metallic green pen (the metallic probably doesn't show well in the scan).

Background is excess Dylusions paint (orange) and then stencils across. The words were hand lettered with Tombow marker and the doodles also with Tombow marker. Pretty simple.

Background done a while back... I think mostly ink pads direct to paper and stencils over top.

Pan Pastel background and Dylusion paints through stencils on top.
Pan Pastels with Dylusions paints through stencils on top. Very vibrant!

Again Pan Pastel background with stenciling over top.
An older page - collage from a magazine and hand lettering and doodling over all that. This was a fun page to create.

Another older page - Pan Pastel background, I think this was when I'd recently gotten the Pan Pastels, actually, and was experimenting with them - I REALLY love them and how easy they are to lay down for a background page! There is rubber stamping over top and then hand lettering and a little doodling.Dieverdoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13433795012323850829noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14865565.post-82364981521876774492016-08-08T22:18:00.003-04:002016-08-08T22:18:25.443-04:00Dieverdoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13433795012323850829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14865565.post-15378299646158641562016-08-08T22:18:00.001-04:002016-08-08T22:18:21.729-04:00Sunday's CreationsWell Stampaway - and all my fun loot - inspired me to create, create, create on Sunday! Here are the results:

A first page in my Dyan Reavely black journal - using her Dylusions paints as well as her new white paint pen which I am just loving. Some new stamps (sun and moon) from LostCoastStamps.com - they have some really cool stamps! Stars from Stamps by Judith and a few stencils, some I made myself on my Silhouette Studio machine.

Another page with Dylusions paints with stencils in the background, quite a few new Judi Kins stamps - circles, scribbles and starbursts. I'm really pleased with this one!

This was the back of one of the pages that Dyan Reaveley pulled out and did her art on the back page... I layered some paint on this side with stencils - not sure if I will do more with it over time or if I'm going to consider it done at this point... I kind of like it as it is.

And a card I made with some new stamps... the birds and saying from Dare2BArtsy and the frame from Just for Fun (I've been getting their stamps for many, many years! And I got the pleasure of seeing Dyan Reveley demo - and she was demoing in customers' journals if they purchased one of her journals at the Stampers Anonymous booth. I'd been thinking about getting one anyway and so she did a page in mine! She is such fun and I love her artwork. I actually remembered to snap photos as she worked - she said that I could. I think I'm gonna love working in this black paged journal. And I love her Dylusions paints.

Here she is starting the page by brayering white Dylusions paint using this mini brayer (which I had to go back and buy, of course).

She layered yellow paint - also brayered it on the page and then put the extra pages that she tore out of the journal face down on the craft sheet and rubbed the excess paint onto the page that way.

Sometimes she used the edge of the brayer handle to scribble into the excess paint before pressing the page onto it - that was really cool!

Here was how the pages looked at that stage.

Then she pulled out a stencil and added more white using the Tim Holtz foam dauber tool.

Then she used her coloring sheets and trimmed parts of them out and taped and glued them on the page - using both double stick tape and a glue stick.

The finished page! So cool!

These were the other two extra pages that she tore out. Lots of juicy layers. Not sure what I will do with them - but it was so cool to see how she did them.Dieverdoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13433795012323850829noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14865565.post-42191624392817426652016-07-31T21:51:00.001-04:002016-07-31T21:55:21.752-04:00Organizing Tips and Tricks

I have been organizing again - taking stock of all my supplies and making sure I have it all organized. I thought I'd share a tip I came up with for my stacking Distress Ink Pads. The thing that frustrated me with these is that when they are stacked you can't see what colors are what. So I got some file folder labels at the office supply store (see image, bottom left). For some reason they have a little black line at each end that marks the middle - which turns out to be really handy. I cut between the labels - so I only have one - then I ink it - which I initially did with the pad itself, but now am doing using the little foam applicators (upper right of photo) which works better and gives a better idea of the stamp pad color. After applying the color to the label I cut it in half with an x-acto knife then peel and stick to the edge of the stamp pad, wrapping it around the corner. I do the same on the other side with the second half – that way no matter how you pick up the pad you can see color on the side!

Now when they are stacked I can totally see what colors are what! Very handy and very easy to see. I suppose if I wanted to I could write the color names on, but I don't find that necessary.

I used another similar trick with my Distress Paints and Stain bottles. I pile them up in clear shoe boxes but then can't easily tell them apart when I want to grab one. So I paint (or stain) some white card stock, let it dry and then punch it out with the proper sized punch - I think the 3/4" sized one is what worked for this. Then I glue it to the cap. Voilá! Easy to sort them out quickly when I need them. And actually the colors are ever so slightly more accurate because I'm seeing the actual paint or stain color – or at least how it looks on white paper. Handy.
And for my punches - when I'm out shopping I can seldom recall which sizes I already have at home and which size I was wanting to add to my collection, which is always growing. So I cut some card stock (I chose black) in half - 5.5" x 8.5" - and then punched out of lavender paper so it would show up nicely, yet is light enough that I could write notes on it to indicate sizes and companies of the different punches. This is a handy size I can carry with me when out shopping or attending a stamping convention. I think I have a 3-ring binder this size I could put this into, too.

What do you do to organize your craft supplies that you find handy? I'd love to hear!Dieverdoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13433795012323850829noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14865565.post-76212570444366130742016-07-30T20:04:00.001-04:002016-07-30T21:55:41.509-04:00Dieverdoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13433795012323850829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14865565.post-44184672502903223692016-07-30T20:04:00.000-04:002016-07-30T21:55:38.790-04:00Back in the Saddle Again (so to speak)After quite a long hiatus here.... life's been busy and I just haven't taken time out to post the many things I've been working on... I am making a comeback and want to make a greater effort to keep you up on what I'm working on and experimenting with. Lately it's been Gelli plate printing and I'll post some of my samples. THIS time around I'm finding that I'm actually putting some of the prints to use in my card making and I'm quite pleased with the results! I think they give a bit of a different look to my usual cards... and that's great! If you have questions, leave me a comment and I'll try to answer it. Thanks for stopping by!
WARNING!!!!! It is very addictive! At least it is for me. At first I figure this may be like many things I get into... I shop, shop, shop and buy, buy, buy and then do a thing or two and drop it and move on to the next shiny object. Well I have at least gotten off to a good start so far and am really enjoying this. I can see it inspiring many, many fun ideas.

Here are my first couple attempts. The "Walking Our Ducks" was first and then "If It Ain't Baroque Don't Fix It" came next. I spent a LOT more time on that one and had a blast. I like the detail, but really the ones with just a few good elements are just as nice I think. I think I will have a lot of fun with these sets.
I added a couple others that I forgot about. The first was "Time in the Bronze Age" which I made for Sharon. And the other one is "Rhino Reverie" with a circus theme. I have a thing for rhinos which I cannot explain. I didn't know about the musical "All About Me" until I was looking for lyrics that would go with this page. But it fit the queenly collaged girl perfectly. This is my first page with the PanPastels and I am loving how they go down. I've done more background pages with them also.
Well here's my next thing I'm gonna try: Artstrnauts Club. I've signed up, watched some amazing and inspiring videos and bought some PanPastels, met some neat folks on the Facebook group and have started a few journal pages.... not a bad start so far. I hope to keep up with it more than I did with 21 Secrets last year (here's hoping).

Here's the pages so far and I'm really loving using the new PanPastels - can't say enough good things about them!

Starting a new adventure! I joined the 21 Secrets and so far (one day) it's been really fun! And I haven't even gotten to the part where I'm creating art yet! Only $59 for 21 classes from 21 instructors – seemed like a great deal to me. Heck, I spend that much at the very least in one trip to JoAnn's! It looks VERY inspiring. And there are SO many nice people that I'm already meeting! There's a dedicated Facebook page for attendees only and several have already joined my Art Journaling Facebook page, too.

I printed off some pages to read for a couple classes and have started watching some of the videos. I've worked on my profile, uploaded a photo (I'm using my drawing of Betty Alpha I did years ago because I like her and she seems to look and feel creative). I've uploaded some of my scans of journal pages. I think I'm nearly ready to start creating art. But it might be a bit late to begin tonight.

I also have to get a few cards done for birthdays for relatives coming up. And I'm also planning a trip to Austin for work and also a bit of vacay... to visit friends. I'm SO looking forward to it.

Well that's my update for now... stay tuned for more artwork to come! And consider joining the 21 Secrets – it runs through January of 2014 and you can sign up any time and go at your own pace (which I LOVE) so it's very open ended and non-pressure.
The last day of the 31 days! I made it! This fun little book I made for Sharon and she generously photographed it for me so I could include it here on the last day. There are many stamps here, some you may have seen on some of my other projects.

I had great fun making this book, I believe most of these are on glossy Kromakote paper and are colorized with stippling and/or markers. It's a tiny photo book I got at JoAnn's.

I hope you all have enjoyed the 31 Days of Halloween as much as I have – fun making the projects, fun seeing what everyone else has done (I will still be getting caught up on that through the weekend I think!) and fun getting such lovely comments and support from everyone. What a great group we have! I'm already looking forward to next year! I'll have to get myself in gear and participate more in challenges through the year so I can stay in touch! Thanks to everyone for making this such a fun 31 Days!

Today's ATCs were themed around some word stamps from Stampers Anonymous that I've had for years. They seemed to be words I could work with for Halloween. Tomorrow is the last day of the 31 days – hard to believe! We've nearly made it and it's been a fun ride - I will still probably spend another week or so going back and catching up on many of the blog posts that I've missed over the course of the month – some evenings I pooped out and didn't get to everyone on every day, much as I wanted to. I want to also thank everyone who has visited my blog and left such lovely and wonderful comments – they are very appreciated!Dieverdoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13433795012323850829noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14865565.post-81235050528766786742012-10-30T08:46:00.000-04:002012-10-30T08:46:11.492-04:00Day of the Dead ATCs – Day 29

Ok, I posted this yesterday but it didn't seem to show up for some reason – I'll blame it on Sandy! Seriously, though, I hope everyone is ok who might live on the east coast or any area affected by Sandy. Stay safe peeps! We actually have a little snow on the ground this morning.

These ATCs are in the Day of the Dead theme this time, in my favorite purple, green, black color combo. The main images are from Invoke arts. There are papers, ribbon and tapes on these as well as other embellishments. Today you get 4 for the "price" of one! Four little ATCs that I created at Sharon's on our last Halloween extravaganza craft-fest. Quite a lot of my 31 Days of Halloween came from that weekend, actually. This set sports a lot of the Halloween papers I've been pushing myself to use and not simply drool over the pads – ATCs are just great for using those odds and ends of scraps. And a variety of stamps were used as well, with some ribbons, tags and decorative tapes also for good measure!
Boy, it's late and I'm tired! This lovely raven flew in from Stampers Anonymous. The trees are from Stampscapes, the fence is from Mrs. O'Leary's (they have THE coolest booth at the stamp shows - but I think I heard they aren't coming to Ohio any more so Sharon & I will have to order online from now on). The clouds in the background are also Stampscapes. I put together some of my cards to mail out to friends tonight – it just dawned on me that I better get them into the mail if they will get in time for Halloween! It is getting closer!
When thinking of an idea of what to do for today's entry I recalled a couple years ago doing some bookmarks on glossy paper for Halloween. If you haven't seen them they are on my Flickr site here: Halloween Bookmark

Without looking them up,, I thought I'd try something in that vein, or at least as I remembered them. I figured they'd be fresher if I didn't look them up first, so I wouldn't be influenced by what I'd done before. I actually did the skeleton one first. The main skeleton is from Tim Holtz, the skull is a stamp I had made from clip art years ago, the swirls are from A Stamp in the Hand and the stripes on the "floor" are another Tim Holtz stamp. The "Do Not Disturb" is from a stamp on a clear set I think is Anna Griffin and I finished the sentiment with my own handwriting.

The bookmark on the left is a Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers stamp – I love their stamps, especially the old-timey ones. We used to see them at conventions but haven't for years now, but I bet they are still online. The ticket stub is a Stampers Anonymous (can you tell I like their stamps?) and the swirls are an unidentified clear stamp set, probably Inkadinkado, but there's nothing on the set now so I can't tell. Most of the stippling is done with Marvy pads and the edging done with Colorbox Chalk pads.
Well this one is jam-packed with Halloween goodness! I won't list all the stamps included (some you've seen in a few of my other projects) but to highlight a few of the ones you may not have yet seen: the scared cat is from Judi Kins (he's SO cute!), the raven on the headstone is Inkadinakado, so it the big swirly spider web, the spider furtherst to the right, and the words in the center. The bat furthest to the left side is from the Edward Gorey Kidstamp set. The tiny bats are a Stamps by Judith stick. The skeleton hands are a stamp I had made from clip art. The mesh is from a large Stampers Anonymous stamp. I also used a punch for the words to go on – the punch is an EK Success punch. I added a little stippling for depth and drew in the dots where the bats had flown (I love doing that!). This was fun. I was going to leave it all black and white but decided that a little orange on the words would make them stand out a bit. This was fun to put together and I got to go through nearly all my Halloween stamps to figure out what might fit!

Today's offering is a pendant (pay no attention to that creepy spider - he's just trying to get in on the action - and bummed that he didn't make it onto the porch display with several of his spidey friends).

I forget the brand of these pendants, but you can find them at JoAnn's and probably Michael's. I think I got mine at a stamp convention from Gary Burlin. I'm sure you can find them online. They have little glass panels (sold separately, of course) that slide in on both sides of your artwork and then you close the frame up at the corner - if you look closely you can see the flange of the clasp in the photo.

I love the colors purple and turquoise - this will go with lots of clothes that I have. I also love that it is two-sided so I can flip it for two looks – like having two necklaces in one.
This is done on a DVD card I got last year (or was it the year before?) from a Video store that was going out of business - these cards were what people looked through to decide what DVDs or videos to get. I painted over a few parts and added some stamping - the crackle stamp is a big cube from Stampendous, the fence from Seaside Stampin' Ink, the skeleton is from Invoke Arts. The barbed wire stamp is a Tim Holtz stamp and the little creature in the lagoon is an Edward Gorey stamp, the crow is unmounted and I'm not sure what company he is from. I had to add a bit of white Distress Marker and some black Sharpie marker to make things stand out. The card was slightly glossy and so it was a little hard to stamp on. And I added the red torn paper to balance the color. It's a creepy, swampy look – I hope you enjoy it.
